FABRÉ & TORRAS Arquitectes Associats started their professional activity in 1979. The studio, located in Barcelona (Carrer de Rosselló, 218), has been led since the very beginning by Jordi Fabré Carreras and Mercè Torras Colell, architects from the Escola Tècnica Superior d’Arquitectura de Barcelona. For more than twenty years, the team has included Jordi Darder architect, as person in charge of several distinct areas and coordinator of activities at the studio. Moreover, a large number of collaborators have been taking part in the work in progress during all this time.
Fabré & Torras’ field of action comprises project redactions as well as the direction of the building works, especially those related with the Public Administration, which accentuated their devotion to the preparation of the proposals for every architecture competition. The magnitude of some works has been remarkable because of their surface but also the managed budget, in spite of having worked, to a lesser extent, in small scale. The projects have been developed in the domains of Education, Universities and Research, Housing and different kinds of Public Facilities, some of them with a very strong social impact. The world of transportation has also been a recurrent theme, regarding services for the bus network (depots, terminals, etc.) in addition to infrastructure for the Barcelona Underground (garages, depots and stations). The studio has also intervened in urbanism.
The territorial scope of the jobs is primarily focused on Catalonia, although a recent work is being developed in the United Arab Emirates, where the first phase of an important project related with transport has already been accomplished.
